Versace Time!

Evening Peglets!

After a busy weekend exploring the night life of Manchester (and sampling the cocktails that EstherPeg wrote about a few weeks ago – truly mindblowingly good) and Derby, this week I’ve stuck my beak right back in where it belongs. I’ve been spoilt for choice of what to write about – Milan menswear fashion week, the Galliano trial, sexy ballboys in Ralph Lauren at Wimbledon, but I have
plumped for one topic which won’t actually affect us until November (and even then, bank balance depending): Donatella Versace designing for H&M!

Following in the footsteps of Rykiel, Elbaz at Lanvin, Lagerfeld, and Jimmy Choo, Versace joins the list of luxury designers extending an olive branch to the lowly high-street shopper. It does state on the H&M website that the collection will be at “fantastic H&M prices” but something tells me there aren’t going to be any £20-dress-steals like there are in H&M today. But… WHO CARES! It is so exciting that luxury fashion is willing to transition to the high street, and even the whiff of something accessible with a Versace stamp on it is worth its weight in…um… studded leather! Either luxury fashion is on to something in this coalition with the
Swedish monolith, or the Creative Director of H&M has a great big you know what and that is why they are all running for their turn… or maybe Donatella just wondered what it would be like to have some of her designs advertised in LOOK magazine?? The collection is set to be inspired by archive designs and the “quintessential” Versace look – think flamboyant prints, sequins and studs. Here’s a sneak peek:

Fingers crossed she comes up with a replica of this piece which, even before the gilded Romanesque emblem, springs into my mind when I hear of Versace:

Lastly, I couldn’t resist getting a tiny bit of Wimbledon in here. Well, not quite Wimbledon exactly but arguably the sexiest man in tennis (Sozzard Murray) Federer  – I’m yours!!!!!! Game, set, MATCH!
